The History of EP forklift

The electric forklift is suitable for work in a warehouse of any scale and purpose, up to large sites of category A +. As a rule, palletized loads weigh up to 1000 kg, so the most popular models of electric forklifts, designed for a load capacity of 1500 kg, easily cope with workloads during an 8-hour shift.

 

The minimum turning radius allows you to work with racks even in the corridor from 3000 mm. High maneuverability and easy control of the electric motor will ensure the efficient implementation of warehouse tasks in confined spaces. Operation takes place without the need for frequent maintenance, which is required when using trucks with internal combustion engines.

As an additional option, it is possible to choose lead-acid, gel or lithium-ion batteries. Lead-acid batteries are the most common; they have a wide range of models and affordable prices. However, the operation in this case will have some nuances. The battery consists of cells (cans) filled with a mixture of liquid electrolyte. When charging and during operation, it is necessary to constantly monitor the density and level of the liquid, periodically add distilled water to the jars. Neglect of these rules leads to boiling of the battery and a decrease in battery capacity.

In addition, when using lead-acid batteries, hydrogen is released - therefore, this option is categorically not suitable for enterprises with sanitary protection zones (pharmaceuticals, food production). For the same reason, a separate room is required to charge such a battery. The average life of lead-acid batteries is 6 years.

 

Gel batteries work in a similar way, but the inside of the cans contains a viscous electrolyte that traps harmful fumes and makes these batteries much safer than lead-acid batteries. Also, these batteries are much easier to use, since they do not require specific care and maintenance, as well as a separate charging room. In addition, gel drives are more resistant to temperature extremes. The design life is up to 12 years.

 

At the same time, the durability and capacity of such batteries is extremely negatively affected by high charging voltage. In addition, gel battery technology must be reliably protected from short circuits. Accordingly, it is necessary to periodically check all internal electrical networks of the equipment.

It is also possible to equip the loader with a lithium-ion battery (Li-ion). They differ, first of all, in the tightness of the container with liquid electrolyte, which cannot enter the environment without critical damage to the protective shell. Lithium-ion batteries can be used in almost any area, including pharmaceutical and food industries. Such devices are more resistant to low temperatures and are allowed for use in freezers, as well as open areas and unheated warehouses during the cold season.

Lithium-ion batteries are designed to be recharged at any time without changing the battery, and can also be partially charged without serious loss of capacity. This makes it possible to use loaders 24/7. Batteries can be charged in pauses during operation; in addition, the option of buying two batteries in shifts is acceptable.

Charging a lithium-ion battery does not require special conditions, and the batteries themselves can be used without constant monitoring of the level and condition of the electrolyte. During operation, there is no risk of release of harmful substances. The design life of Li-Ion batteries is the largest among the above analogues and can reach up to 15-20 years. The factory warranty for this type of energy storage device is 3 years.

 

The only drawback of electric forklifts is the relatively high cost. However, due to less frequent maintenance and the absence of the need to purchase fuel and lubricants, this type of equipment is much cheaper in the long run.
