The History of JCB Excavator

JCB are the initials of the founder, whose name was Joseph Cyril Bamford. The first machine that Bamford built from assorted metal parts in his own garage was an agricultural trailer that he managed to sell.

The beginning of the journey and the first successes

By 1949, Bamford already had 6 people working, and the first bulldozer appeared. The inventor was the first in Europe to use hydraulics in agricultural machinery. The next year, he moved the company to an abandoned cheese factory, where the machines produced and began to be painted in a recognizable yellow color. The choice is explained simply: it is difficult not to notice such equipment at the construction site.

In 1953, the Bamford company produced a backhoe loader - the first in the world. And did not stop there. We launched the production of removable equipment, which was suitable not only for JCB equipment, but also for tractors of other brands. Business went well: Bamford sold about 2,000 pieces of equipment.

Excavators

The first model loader appeared in 1960. In just four years, more than 3,000 cars were sold. The entrepreneur had a good idea of how to achieve the interest and location of potential buyers: he personally showed how the operator can make himself tea right in the cab using a special device.

The company surprises even today. So, the fastest GT wheel loader, which can accelerate up to 193 km/h, rolled off its assembly line. The engine of the model is 7.4 liters and 1000 hp. JCB also manufactures very small machines such as the 8008 CTS Micro Excavator. He can drive through a standard doorway, but he will also successfully replace at least a dozen workers.

During the year, 26,000 tons of sheet steel, 60,000 tons of iron and more than 14 million bolts and other elements are spent on backhoe loaders. One machine is created in about two days. The main production line of the company is located in the English area of Staffordshire, there are also factories in China, the USA, Brazil, and India.

Interesting Facts

Buying rooms. Since 1958, Bamford tried to buy all license plates in England that had the letters JCB, and became the owner of most of them. Today they are hunted by collectors.

"Dances on excavators". JCB was the first company in the world to show something similar to circus tricks that demonstrated the capabilities of special equipment. Now this is a tradition of the company, which is copied by other manufacturers.

Songs. Singer Lenny Green in 1958 did not bypass the JCB theme in one of his compositions. In 2005, the Nizlopi group (England) released a Christmas song with a reference to an excavator, and it stayed in the charts for a long time.

Joseph Bamford handed over his business to his son Anthony in 1975. He continues to manage the business today, and the company remains just as successful, and its products are in demand.
