Dongfeng Motor Company was founded in 1969 and is the largest backbone state-owned enterprise in China. The head office of the company is located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The main production bases of Dongfeng Motor are located in Shiyan, Xiangyang, Wuhan and Guangzhou. The main activities of the company are the production of trucks and cars, car parts, equipment for cars, as well as car loans and trade-in. On December 10, 2011, Dongfeng Motor officially unveiled the D300 project of Qian's own brand. The main goal of the company is to increase sales of Dongfeng Motor's own brands to 3 million units by 2016. Of these, 1 million should be DFM commercial vehicles, 1 million DFM cars, and 1 million cars of other own brands.
In 2014, Dongfeng Motor acquired a 14% stake in PSA Peugeot Citroen Group, becoming one of the group's largest shareholders along with the French government and the Peugeot family. This gives Dongfeng broad access to PSA's strategic resources and technology.
