The History of Liebherr Crane

70 years ago, on August 19, 1949, the German Patent Office issued a patent for Hans Liebherr's first mobile tower crane. His invention marked the beginning of Liebherr's success story.

In 70 years, Liebherr has developed into an international technology company with eleven production units and is now one of the largest construction equipment manufacturers in the world. The family-owned company recently showcased its latest construction equipment innovations at Bauma 2019, the world's largest trade fair for construction equipment.

Among the huge number of different lifting equipment, and, in particular, among cranes, it is automobile ones that are often the best choice. They are mobile, easy to transport, quick to assemble, have a wide range of load capacity options.

Their disadvantages usually include a relatively low carrying capacity and a low boom height, which is often not enough for the construction of high massive structures. But the German designers who created the largest truck crane on the planet, the Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1, are ready to argue with this.

This is a self-propelled boom crane, it has a telescopic boom, which is mounted on a special chassis. In addition, the crane boom is the highest in the world.

Without special lattice extensions, the crane is able to lift a load to a height of 100 meters, with all extensions to a height of up to 180 meters, and this is higher than a 50-storey building!

With an outreach of 2.5 meters, the carrying capacity is .2 thousand tons, with an increase in the outreach of the boom, the carrying capacity decreases, at an outreach of 180 meters it is only 1.3 tons.

But the crane can move independently and even accelerate to 75 km/h. In this he is helped by an engine with a capacity of 600 l / s.

The second engine with a capacity of 367 l / s and 270 kW ensures the operation of hydraulic systems, winches, and other systems and mechanisms.

It takes about 8 hours to prepare the crane for work. Parts and components are brought in escorted by a convoy on 20 heavyweights. The weight distribution goes to 4 hydraulic supports (outriggers), 300 tons each. Under each leg of the outrigger, a special platform of steel beams is arranged to distribute the load on the soil.

On the basis of a crane weighing 22 tons, there are counterweight plates with a total weight of 202 tons. Control over the load distribution, stress in the supports is carried out from the crane operator's cab in automatic mode. The work process is constantly monitored by several operators who have direct contact with the crane operator, which minimizes the possibility of error.

During operation, the LTM 11200-9.1 crane does not use a counterweight. This device, which consists of 18 plates weighing 10 tons each, is used only when some kind of load needs to be lifted to a fairly large height. This crane does not have a counterweight due to the very robust construction of the slewing ring.

The crane is controlled from the cabin, which can be adjusted in height. All equipment in the control cabin is electronic, so there are no difficulties when working with this colossus.
