AVIA Motors

Avia was founded in the Czech Republic in 1919 by two engineers, Pavel Beneš and Miloslav Gain. At first, the company was engaged in the development and production of aircraft for the needs of the army. In 1968, the first trucks of the Avia brand left the factory conveyor - these were the light models A15 and A30 with a carrying capacity of 1.5 and 3.0 tons, respectively. They were equipped with a completely new 4-cylinder "diesel" with direct fuel injection, which had a capacity of 72 and 80 hp.

In 1928, Skoda bought the company, but Avia continued to produce the same products for almost 20 more years, until the end of World War II. In 1946, she begins to produce trucks and passenger buses, doing this under the Skoda brand.

After another 20 years, the product range is replenished with SAVIEM machines, the license for which was bought by the company's management. The firm is actively growing, and most of its products are purchased by the Soviet Union, as well as other countries.

However, the collapse of the USSR was a very painful blow for Avia, which lost its largest sales market, and in 1995 the company merged with Daewoo, releasing only slightly improved old models in a joint venture. In 2006, Avia was bought by the Indian company Ashok Leyland, and the company took up the development of an updated line of trucks. On July 31, 2013, the production of Avia cars was curtailed, and the plant in Prague-Letnany was closed by the decision of the Indian management of the company due to low demand for trucks in the Czech Republic and in Europe as a whole. Production of spare parts and service maintenance will continue, and in the event of a revival of demand for Avia vehicles, their production will be carried out at other enterprises of Ashok Leyland Motors.
