The History of Clark forklift

This year, one of the most sought-after machines in the warehouse industry, the forklift, is celebrating its centenary. Exactly 100 years ago, the Clark Equipment Company, which began its journey in 1903 as a manufacturer of automotive parts, in Buchanan, Michigan, designed the world's first industrial tractor powered by a gasoline engine.

Initially, the design of the machine included a flat platform on which the load was placed manually. This loader was used to transport materials between warehouses. Practicality and functionality appealed to the visitors of the plant, arousing their interest. As a result, CLARK began to receive orders from other enterprises for the manufacture and supply of tractors for their own needs.

The turning point in the history of both the company and engineering as a whole was the 20s of the XX century. In 1921, the company's designers produced the first warehouse loader with a carrying capacity of 2 to 5 tons, equipped with a counterweight and a seat for the operator. In 1922, the model was finalized: an internal combustion engine was installed in it. The company patented its solutions and made them available to other market players, thereby introducing new standards for the design of forklifts, which are still basic for every manufacturer.

Clark, building on 100 years of successful experience and following the motto "Designed to last", to this day holds a leading position in the segment, being a technological trendsetter in the global material handling equipment industry. The main mission that the company faces from the day of its foundation to the present is the development and production of more advanced machines, as well as giving this technique new functionality that can significantly increase its productivity when working in production. When designing, more attention is paid to environmental and safety issues, for which new complex innovations are being actively introduced.

Over such a long period of work, the company has produced more than a million loaders, of which more than 350,000 units are now successfully operated in 150 countries around the world. The brand's equipment line currently includes three and four-wheel loaders with a lifting capacity of 1.6 to 5 tons, as well as other warehouse equipment. With a strong network of regional offices, dealers and service partners in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, CLARK provides fast, expert service and support.
